Native Foreign reimagined animation by launching Critterz, the first-ever AI-generated short, now remastered with Sora and being turned into a feature film.
A Groundbreaking Fusion of AI and Filmmaking
To mark the first anniversary of OpenAI’s DALL·E, Native Foreign and director Chad Nelson created Critterz, the first animated short film entirely generated with AI visuals combined with traditional Hollywood production—animation, voice performance, music, and sound design. This bold experiment premiered at Annecy, Cannes Lions, and Tribeca, earning nods like a Producers Guild Innovation Award nomination.
From Remastered Short to Feature in the Works
Pushing boundaries further, we remastered the film using OpenAI’s Sora, achieving an innovative leap in generative animation. After securing copyright through Perkins Coie, Critterz is now being developed into a full-length feature with acclaimed writers James Lamont and Jon Foster (Paddington in Peru), in partnership with Vertigo Films. This evolution showcases Native Foreign’s vision: AI-enhanced storytelling with heart, depth, and industry-leading creative collaboration.
